Hello, candle lovers, homeware connoisseurs, and conscious consumers! This is Carl Tomkinson, the founder of Helm London. Today, I want to share with you the story behind our brand and how we created a sustainable vegan candle business. It's been quite a journey, and I'm thrilled to share our passion and dedication with you all.
The Birth of an Idea
As an avid candle lover, I often found myself questioning the ethical and environmental impact of the candles I was burning in my home. After doing some research, I realised that many candles on the market were made from materials that were neither sustainable nor cruelty-free. This ignited a spark in me, and I knew there had to be a better way. With that, Helm London was born.
The Journey to Sustainability
Our first step was to create a candle that was both sustainable and vegan. We knew that traditional paraffin wax was derived from petroleum, which contributes to air pollution and has negative health effects. So, we decided to use soy wax, a renewable and biodegradable material made from soybean oil. Not only is it better for the environment, but it also burns cleaner and longer.
Next, we focused on the scents. Many candles use synthetic fragrances that can contain harmful chemicals. To avoid this, we chose to create our scents using only natural, plant-based essential oils. This way, we could ensure that our candles were not only cruelty-free but also free from harmful toxins.
The Power of Packaging
Packaging is often overlooked, but it plays a crucial role in sustainability. To minimise our impact on the environment, we designed minimalist packaging all of which is fully recycleable. In addition, we use eco-friendly ink and encourage our customers to reuse or recycle the packaging after use.
Local and Ethical Suppliers
To further our commitment to sustainability, we made it a priority to source our materials from local, ethical suppliers. This helps to reduce our carbon footprint and supports small businesses within our community. We are proud to say that all our soy wax, essential oils, and packaging materials come from suppliers who share our values and commitment to sustainability.
The Future of Helm London
We have come a long way since our humble beginnings, and we're incredibly grateful for the support of our customers and the community. As we continue to grow and evolve, our commitment to sustainability, ethics, and quality will remain at the core of everything we do.
